At 3:47 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, Fairfax County Deputy Chief of Police for Investigations Eli Cory said that they received an emergency 911 call from a housekeeper who came across three bodies in the basement of a home in the 8500 block of Wild Spruce Drive in Springfield.
On Friday, April 28, investigators said that they've identified the victims as Meskerem Belachew Solomon, 38, Amanuel Belachew Solomon, 31, and Tiku Berhane Gebreeyesus, 47.
All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation determined that Gebreeyesus shot his wife, Meskerem, and her brother, Amanuel, before turning the gun on himself.
A handgun was recovered in the basement.
At the time of the shooting, the housekeeper, a nanny, and a 2-year-old toddler were inside an upper level of the home, officials said.
Detectives are still searching to determine the circumstances that led to the triple fatal shooting.
"We're looking to see what happened in the time the shooting occurred and the (housekeeper) called 911," Cory said after the shooting. "We're working to determine what happened, or if it was something else. There were multiple wounds to the upper body."
Three children - two of which were not home at the time the investigation was launched - are now being cared for by the family's live-in nanny and family friends.
